Charge

The AAR Regional Council is charged with supporting and promoting the work of the Academy's regional groups, and with the recommendation of regional policies to the board. 

Description

The AAR Regional Council is a dedicated working group of the AAR Board of Directors. This council is comprised of the nine Chief Regional Officers (CROs) and the AAR Regions Director, who serves as the chair. The AAR Regional Council plays a crucial role in supporting, promoting, and developing regional activities.

Tasks of the Council

  • Policy Recommendation: Suggest policies and best practices for the effective administration of regional affiliates.
  • Communication Facilitation: Enhance communication between and among regional officers, the AAR Office, and the larger AAR community, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Grant Administration: Oversee the AAR’s Regional Development Grants Program, facilitating the distribution of funds to support regional initiatives.
  • Issue Deliberation: Serve as the main forum for discussing and evaluating regional concerns and policies.
  • Initiative Implementation: Act as the platform for launching new initiatives related to regional development and activities.

Member Participation

Members of the AAR Regional Council are expected to engage in the following activities:

  • Participate in AAR Regional Council meetings called by the AAR Regions Director, Chair of the Regional Council.
  • Attend the annual Regional Officers' Breakfast during the Annual Meeting in November.
  • Oversee and administer the Regional Development Grants Program.

Terms of Service

  • Regions Director: The AAR Regions Director serves for a term of three (3) years, non-renewable. The AAR Regions Director is also a member of the AAR Board of Directors.
  • Chief Regional Officers: Each Chief Regional Officer serves their region for a term of three (3) years, with the possibility of re-election for one (1) additional term of three (3) years.
