We are pleased to announce that Russell T. McCutcheon has been appointed to serve a four-year term as the AAR Delegate to the American Council of Learned Societies. The ACLS is a federation of about seventy scholarly organizations in the humanities and social sciences. We are grateful to Russell for his service to the Academy in this role.

Russell T. McCutcheon is University Research Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama; his work focuses on the history of the study of religion and the practical implications of classification, specifically the categories used as part of the discourse on religion. He has published widely on issues of method and theory and has edited or co-edited a variety of journals and resources for scholars of religion. Most recently, that includes co-editing Religion in Five Minutes (with Aaron Hughes) and the forthcoming Reading J.Z. Smith (with Willi Braun). He has two collections of his own essays forthcoming in 2018 (one with Equinox and the other with Walter de Gruyter) and is currently at work on an updated companion to Jacques Waardenburg’s Classical Approaches to the Study of Religion.
