Copulsky Named AAR-Luce Fellow

Jerome CopulskyThe AAR has awarded Jerome E. Copulsky an AAR-Luce Fellowship in Religion and International Affairs. The fellowship will fund Dr. Copulsky to work in the Office of Religion and Global Affairs as a Franklin Fellow at the US Department of State. Most recently, he has served as Director of Judaic Studies and Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Goucher College. His work focuses on modern Judaism, political theology, and religion/state issues.

He was selected through a rigorous, multi-stage, peer-review process. The selection panel was composed of senior, university-affiliated scholars of religion, representing diverse expertise and methodologies. “The AAR‑Luce Fellows Program aims to facilitate lines of communication so that scholarship and critical, analytical perspectives are more readily accessible to policymakers attempting to address issues in parts of the world where the role of religion may be unclear,” said AAR Executive Director Jack Fitzmier. “We want scholars to have the opportunity to affect policy and learn how foreign policy is developed.”

The AAR-Luce Fellows Program is made possible by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.

The American Academy of Religion is the world’s largest association for the academic study of religion. Our thousands of members research or teach about religious traditions, issues, questions, values, texts, practices, or institutions, and foster better understanding of religion by the public.
