The American Academy of Religion is pleased to announce its partnership with the Sakai Foundation, a member-based nonprofit organization engaged in the collaborative development and distribution of open-source software for education, research, and related scholarly activities.

As a member of the Sakai Partners Program, the AAR joins more than 65 other academic institutions and nonprofits in providing institutional and organizational support to the entire Sakai community, a collaborative group of over 350 universities, colleges, and schools, including more than one third of the top 100 universities in the world.

“I am pleased to welcome the American Academy of Religion to the Sakai Foundation and the project to build the Sakai Open Academic Environment,” said Ian Dolphin, Sakai Foundation Executive Director. “Scholarly societies make a significant contribution to academic endeavour, and it's important that our efforts reflect their needs, in addition to those of higher education institutions and individual researchers. The engagement of the AAR will help to ensure that happens.”

Founded in 1909, the AAR is the world’s largest association of religion scholars with some 10,000 members in North America and abroad. Its mission is to foster excellence in the study of religion by promoting research, publishing, and teaching about religion in academia. The AAR neither endorses nor rejects any religious belief or practice.
