Bhakti Mamtora

Bhakti Mamtora, 2016–2017, AAR Student Director

Bhakti Mamtora is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Religion at the University of Florida. Her research considers the interplay between orality and textuality in the Swaminarayan Sampraday, a Hindu tradition founded at the turn of nineteenth century in Gujarat, India. She is the recipient of the Tedder Family Doctoral Fellowship and a Fulbright Scholarship Finalist. She received her MA in South Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012, and her BA in Communications and Media Studies and International Political Economy from Fordham University in 2012.

Since joining the AAR in 2010, Mamtora has served the organization in multiple leadership capacities. On the national level, she serves on the Board of Directors and chairs the Graduate Student Committee. She has served as the elected student representative and board member (2014–2016) in the AAR Southeast region and the editor of the Speaking of Students quarterly newsletter (2014–2016).
