Changes to AAR Member Dues in 2019

Renewals are here! Read on for more information about what's new.

Over the past year, the AAR leadership has been reevaluating our dues structure to better serve our members and adapt to changing needs. Below you will find everything you need to know about upcoming changes. In addition to restructuring dues, the AAR is working to provide more member benefits in order to be a valuable resource to members every day of the year.

New salary ranges

The new salary ranges below include a lower student rate and greater diversity of salary brackets. For example, membership dues in 2018 for salaries between $20,000 and $59,999 were $110; under the new structure, salaries between $20,000 and $39,999 will now have dues of $79, and those between $40,000 and $59,999 will stay at $110.

Rolling-year dues

This structure will replace the calendar-year dues structure. Memberships will last one year from the join or renew date.

JAAR opt-in for hard copies

To receive physical copies of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, members will now have to opt in and pay an additional $25. This change affects only print versions of JAAR; digital access will continue to be included in all AAR memberships. Members who opt to receive hard copies will be sent the 4 issues that fall within their membership year. International members will no longer automatically be charged a $20 postage fee.
