Calls for Papers    

  • Annual Meeting of the Society for Christian Scholarship in Music: Individual papers, research posters, panels, and lecture recitals on any topic related to the study of music and Christianity are welcome. Submissions representing a variety of approaches and perspectives, including ethnomusicology, historical musicology, theory and analysis, philosophy, theology, liturgy, congregational music, as well as other methodologies are invited. (Deadline: October 1, 2022)

Fellowships, Grants, and Further Scholarship    

  • AAR Have a Cup of Coffee Mentoring Program - Held face-to-face during the Annual Meeting, this program connects members in need of mentoring with experienced professionals. Apply to be a mentor! (Deadline: October 7, 2022)
  • AAR Individual Research Grants - Provide support for important aspects of research, such as fieldwork or travel to archives and libraries, for AAR members. (Deadline: October 13, 2022) 
  • AAR Collaborative Research Grants - Intended to stimulate cooperative research among scholars who have a focus on a clearly identified research project and for interdisciplinary work with scholars outside the field of religion. (Deadline: October 13, 2022)
  • AAR Collaborative International Research Grants - As a member of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR), the AAR provides Collaborative International Research Grants to support generative research collaborations between and among scholars located in different geographical regions who wish to pursue focused, joint projects in any area of the study of religion. (Deadline: November 3, 2022)
  • AAR Undergraduate Research Grant - The AAR is piloting a new grant program, the AAR Undergraduate Research Grant program, that is designed to allow AAR members to support an undergraduate student conducting research on religion. (Deadline: November 1, 2022)
  • The Hilltop Short-term Residential Fellowships for Individual Research in Catholic Studies at Georgetown University - Provide opportunities for individuals with a specific need for the Special Collections at Georgetown University’s Lauinger Library to advance a significant scholarly project on a topic related to Catholicism in any of the disciplines composing Catholic Studies, such as theology and philosophy, history and literature, the arts and the natural and social sciences. PhD candidates, postdoctoral scholars, and scholars with terminal degrees who live and work outside of the Washington metropolitan area are eligible to apply. (Deadline: December 15, 2022)
  • Summer Seminars in Phenomenology and Revelation: Recent Ph. D.s (2018 or later) or current Ph.D. candidates are invited to apply for participation in the morning seminars and extensive discussion of their own papers in the afternoons. Paper proposals should be devoted to the topics of phenomenology and revelation in some form. Successful applicants will receive full funding, including travel, lodging, and all meals (for the seminars and the conference).(Deadline: December 31, 2022)

  • CONSTANTINE AND GEORGE MACRICOSTAS FELLOWSHIP AT THE GENNADIUS LIBRARY - The Constantine and George Macricostas Fellowship at the Gennadius Library supports research on Orthodox Christian Studies with an emphasis on Orthodoxy’s history, religious traditions, and geographical, geopolitical, and cultural reach. Of particular interest is the significant role that the institution of the church played in the broader history of Hellenism. (Deadline: January 15, 2023)
