My Policies:

  • Attendance at all classes is expected, as is the completion of reading assignments before the relevant classes.
  • It is not sufficient to simply attend faithfully and fill space in the classroom to received full marks for participation; you must actually contribute regularly to class discussion. To put this even more explicitly, even if you receive a grade of A on most of your written assignments, if you never contribute to class, you cannot and will not receive an A as a final grade.
  • I regard plagiarism as a serious offense. Any student found to be committing plagiarism I will report to the Dean of Studies ; he or she will receive an automatic grade of F for the course.
  • I will grant extensions only if the student and I meet before the assignment is due and agree upon a new date. Do not come to me after the assignment is due and request an extension! If the assignment is handed in late without the student having notified me and asked for an extension, I will penalize it one letter degree (i.e. A will reduce to A-) for each day late. I have a liberal re-write policy; rather than handing an assignment in late, I would prefer if you hand in the paper on time, and then submit a re-write a few days later. The second paper will not be considered late, and I will discard the first paper.
