The AAR is saddened to share that Michael Sincoff Kogan, professor emeritus at Montclair State University, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024. For 42 years, until his retirement in January 2015, Dr. Kogan taught courses in Jewish and Christian scripture studies, philosophy, theology, American religious history, and Mormonism as well as chaired the department of philosophy and religion for 24 years. A note from AAR member Stephen M. Johnson:

"A a mentor and teacher, [Kogan] was beloved by his students and known for teaching with a passion and enthusiasm that made a lasting impression well beyond the classroom. After his retirement, Dr. Kogan moved to South Carolina where he taught at the College of Charleston and was active in many religious communities. He not only maintained relationships with former students but also continued to support Montclair State through student scholarships, campus enhancements, and departmental programming."
